NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Not much change in the forecast heading in to the weekend. We will be hot through Saturday before moisture begins to move in from the Gulf Sunday and early next week. The area of potential tropical development in the southern Gulf is now at a 50% chance from the NHC. Anything that forms would stay well south of our area and likely drift westward into Mexico.
The main thing we will see out of any of this will be some of the tropical moisture and rain moving into the area. Right now it looks like tropical moisture moves in with rain by Sunday into early next week. It looks like the heaviest rain will stay south and west of our area over the western Gulf, but clouds and showers will still keep temperatures lower heading into next week.
Father’s Day is looking better than it did a couple of days ago. We will see some spotty showers but it looks like the majority of rain holds off until next week. Expect highs around 90.
Locally we have an Air Quality Alert in effect through midnight Friday. Groups that are sensitive to respiratory issues should limit time outdoors, especially during the heating of the day.
Temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s today followed by mid to upper 90s Saturday. It will be hot heading into the weekend.
