NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – If you thought it was unusually hot over the past month, you’re right. Coming off of a very hot June across the area we saw the hottest July on record at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, which is the official climate site for the city.

You can see in the graphic from the National Weather Service in Slidell that the average temperature in July of this year was almost a full degree higher than the now second warmest month on record back in 1980. The average temperature means the overall average of both afternoon highs and morning lows at the airport.

Also of note is that July of 2015 is number three on the list which means that the last two Julys are two of the top 3 hottest on record dating back to 1946.

One of the factors has been the humidity which prevented the morning low from dropping very much over the past few weeks. Even though we saw many days with afternoon storms which cooled things down near the airport, it was often after temperatures had already reached the low to mid-90s.
