NHC tracking 2 disturbances in the Atlantic

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Two disturbances in the Atlantic have formed this week.

One disturbance has flared up around the Bahamas. WGNO meteorologist Jeff Robbins says, “at the moment, it only has a 10% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone (tropical depression or tropical storm) over the next 48 hours and a 20% chance over the next 5 days.”

Adding it is not a situation he is “overly concerned about.”

However, the disturbance is moving either northwest or west. If it heads west, it could come into the Gulf of Mexico. Robbins says those chances are low, but something he’ll be watching.

The second disturbance has a 30% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next 48 hours, but after that time, conditions are forecast to become more conducive for development, giving it a 70% chance.

“The good thing is that it is moving west and northwest. It is the northwesterly component, that could keep it away from the Gulf, if it does develop into a tropical depression or storm,” Robbins explains.
