NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The National Hurricane Center is watching two areas’ chances of development in the tropics. The first is with the rain in Florida as part of it moves east into the western Atlantic. The second is the Bay of Campeche. That second area currently has a 40% chance of development over the next 7 days. Anything that forms would stay well south of our area and likely drift westward into Mexico.
The main thing we will see out of any of this will be some of the tropical moisture and rain moving into the area. Right now it looks like tropical moisture moves in with rain by Sunday into early next week. It looks like the heaviest rain will stay south and west of our area over the western Gulf, but clouds and showers will still keep temperatures lower heading into next week.
Father’s Day is looking better than it did a couple of days ago. We will see some spotty showers but it looks like the majority of rain holds off until next week.
Locally we have an Air Quality Alert in effect through midnight Thursday. Groups that are sensitive to respiratory issues should limit time outdoors, especially during the heating of the day.
Temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s today followed by mid to upper 90s Friday and Saturday. It will be hot heading into the weekend.
