Rain in the area Friday morning, clearing up by afternoon

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Good Morning, New Orleans! Southeast Louisiana’s forecast for this morning is active with rain in the area moving through from our west.

Most of the heaviest rain is offshore, but areas south of I-10 are seeing downpours with lightning, as well! As the system moves overhead, this line of showers and storms has behaved. It will push east through late morning followed by partly cloudy skies in the afternoon, then scattered showers in the evening.

There is a Level 1 threat for severe weather for Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi as some storms might bring hail and gusty winds. By early Saturday morning, things should calm down and we’ll have mostly dry conditions through the weekend.

Clear skies and pleasant weather are in store for Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures reaching the low to mid 70s during the day and dropping into the 40s and 50s at night.

Our next round of rain and storms is expected to move in late Monday into Tuesday morning. This next system will bring the potential for strong to severe storms once again, but it is still too early to pinpoint the exact timing and threats. Stay tuned for updates in the coming days.

By Tuesday afternoon, things should clear up again with drier and cooler air moving in.
