Rain tapering off this evening

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A tornado watch is now in effect for areas along and north of I-10 until 9PM Friday evening. Scattered storms will continue to develop and move through the area but right now it looks like a relatively low end severe threat for our viewing area. Most of the heavy activity will be moving out of the area this evening.

There is also a risk for localized flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage.

Rainfall totals of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected along the immediate Gulf Coast, with locations along and north of the I-10 corridor likely seeing 1 to 2 inches. Some spots may see isolated higher amounts with any slow-moving storms.

Expect one more weak line of showers along the front tonight before drier air filters in Saturday morning.

The rain clears out by sunrise Saturday, but clouds will likely stick around through much of the weekend. High temperatures over the weekend will be cooler, with low 70s Saturday and 60s on Sunday.
