TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The National Hurricane Center is watching two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic basin. However, both systems have a low chance of forming over the next few days.
Disturbance No. 1 (Invest 90L)
The first disturbance the NHC is monitoring is responsible for all the rain the Tampa Bay area has been getting.
Weather officials said the area of low pressure near the east coast of Florida is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
The NHC said the system could develop as it moves northeastward offshore of the southeastern U.S. coast over the next few days.
“Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is forecast to continue across portions of the Florida peninsula through late this week,” the NHC said.
The system has a 20 percent chance of development over the next seven days.
Disturbance No. 2
The NHC is also tracking a broad area of low pressure near the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.
Meteorologists said environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of the system.
A tropical depression could form during the early or middle part of next week as the system slowly moves westward or west-northwestward. It has a 40 percent chance of developing.
This system will not impact Florida.
