VIDEO: Waterspout forms over Lake Pontchartrain as heavy rains move through metro

METAIRIE, La. — A waterspout was spotted over Lake Pontchartrain north of Metairie Tuesday afternoon as a line of strong thunderstorms moves through the metro area.

Heavy rains and scattered thunderstorms are expected throughout the afternoon.

WGNO Chief Meteorologist Hank Allen says waterspouts are common over the lake this time of year.
