Warm and humid Saturday night, isolated storms Sunday

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Warm, spring-like conditions are in the forecast for the final weekend of the Carnival season.

After spending most of the day in the 70s, temperatures are forecast to only drop into the mid 60s overnight. The warm temperatures, high humidity, and low wind speeds may lead to the development of dense fog late tonight into early Sunday morning.

Temperatures will top out in the mid 70s once again Sunday, about 10 degrees above average for this time of the year.

A few showers will be possible during the afternoon Sunday, but the wet weather should remain isolated until the evening. Late Sunday night, scattered showers and storms are expected, but widespread heavy rain is not expected.

Any storms that develop may become strong or severe, with damaging wind gusts and hail being the main threats. The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of the area under a Level 2 risk for severe weather.

After the rain clears early Monday morning, temperatures will be quite a bit cooler as a cold front pushes through. Expect breezy conditions for Lundi Gras with a high in the low 60s. Cool conditions and sunny skies are in store for Mardi Gras with highs Tuesday in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.
