Second bomb threat at Kenner Discovery shuts down school, changes polling location for some voters

KENNER, La. (WGNO) — Police have identified a teenager accused of making multiple threats to Kenner Discovery Academy – including one that relocated some voters to a new polling place on Election Day.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a 15-year-old suspect from out of state, detectives with the Kenner Police Department said Tuesday (Nov. 4) evening. The suspect’s name and gender were not disclosed.

A tweet from the Kenner Police Department says the threat came in early on Election Day morning to the school, used as a polling place for Precincts K007A and K007B in Jefferson Parish. No students were at school on Tuesday due to the election.

Voters were moved to Audubon Elementary School for the remainder of Election Day. KPD says detectives “strongly believe” the was not election-related.

Details on how Tuesday’s threat transpired were not available, however, it was later determined the incident was connected to another threat made to Kenner Discovery last Thursday, when police say a robocaller threatened the campus with a bomb if the school did not make its demands for bitcoin.

Detectives say the teen will be arrested on two charges when located:

• False Communication with the Intent to Cause and Emergency Response
• Communicating of False Information of Planned Arson
