NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans police have closed the French Quarter to traffic after Friday’s walking parades reeled in more crowds than expected.
The New Orleans Police Department reports the area was closed to traffic at 1 p.m. All points of entry, from Rampart to Decatur streets and Esplanade Avenue to Canal Street, are closed.
Traffic already in the area may leave, but no traffic can enter.
According to the NOPD, the last parade starts at 3:15 p.m. The area may reopen around 5 p.m.
Usual French Quarter closures will begin at 6 p.m., which only affect vehicles trying to cross Bourbon Street.
