ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A domestic violence suspect was hospitalized after being shot in St. Charles Parish on Sunday, June 2.

Deputies with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that at 9:26 p.m., they were called to a home on Bayou Gouche Road to respond to a domestic violence incident.

An investigation revealed that the 911 call consisted of a woman telling deputies that her boyfriend, 26-year-old Dalton Todd, was allegedly holding a gun to her head.

Upon arrival, deputies positioned themselves outside the home in an effort to call Todd out.

Todd allegedly exited the home with the gun in hand. Deputies said they ordered Todd to put the gun down, to which he refused, resulting in them shooting “less-than-lethal beanbag rounds.”

The beanbags were deemed unsuccessful, as Todd allegedly began advancing toward deputies with the gun after being temporarily stunned. According to deputies, they shot Todd in his legs.

Deputies said medical care was administered to Todd before he was airlifted to University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

According to the sheriff’s office, once released from the hospital, Todd will be booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on an active warrant for aggravated assault with a firearm, five counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer and resisting an officer with force or violence.

The investigation is ongoing.
