Jefferson Parish deputy shoots, wounds man following Marrero parade

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Jefferson Parish deputies are investigating a deputy-involved shooting that happened on a parade route in Marrero.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said deputies were directing traffic after the Krewe of Music finished rolling in the 5900 block of Lapalco Boulevard around 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5 when the incident happened.

He said a man driving a sport utility vehicle tried to exit a parking lot through an “unauthorized portion” where a deputy was standing.

The man reportedly ignored commands to stop and drove over the curb and toward the deputy. As the man continued, Lopinto said the deputy pulled his gun and shot the man once.

He was taken to a local hospital for a non-fatal wound and was listed in stable condition.

No further details were released.
