NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) arrested two carjacking suspects minutes after the crime happened in Broadmoor on Wednesday, May 24. A third suspect was later arrested in St. Bernard Parish.
NOPD officials say a man approached a woman at gunpoint in the 3800 block of Louisiana Avenue parkway around 8:00 p.m. The woman was forced out of her car and told to leave her purse. The suspect fled the scene in her Jeep, followed by a pickup truck driven by another suspect.
Minutes later, NOPD officials said officers stopped the Jeep and arrested 19-year-old Cairen Jones and 20-year-old Jacob Jones.
NOPD officers later spotted the pickup truck that followed the stolen Jeep. The truck entered St. Bernard Parish and parish deputies assisted in the arrest of 20-year-old Diamond Eugene.
Eugene was allegedly found in possession of the victim’s credit card and a rifle. The truck had also been reported as stolen out of St. Tammany Parish.
Cairen and Jacob were booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for simple burglary, armed robbery, illegal carrying of weapons, and resisting an officer.
Eugene was booked in St. Bernard Parish for aggravated assault, resisting an officer, illegal carrying of weapons and illegal possession of stolen things.
NOPD officials said the suspects may face additional charges as the investigation continues.
