NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the man shot and killed while riding on the Crescent City Connection.

Around 12:44 p.m. on Feb. 22, NOPD officers say they were called to respond to a shooting on the bridge after 23-year-old Giovanne Coleman arrived at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.

An investigation revealed the shooting happened on U.S. 90 West past the Tchoupitoulas Street exit ramp.

Further information revealed Coleman was a passenger in a vehicle that had two others in it when a sedan carrying an unknown number of people began to shoot at the vehicle.

Coleman was wounded but the others were left unharmed, according to officers.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Coleman was listed in “grave condition” but later died from his wounds.

The shooting caused the bridge to shut down as detectives searched for evidence but reopened at 4:20 p.m.

No further details are available. The NOPD is in the process of collecting evidence and information to determine a possible suspect and motive.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call the NOPD Homicide detectives at 504-658-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
