NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man is dead after being hit and killed by a vehicle in the St. Claude neighborhood, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

NOPD officers said they received a call around 10:48 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, of a bicyclist being hit by a vehicle at the corner of North Claiborne Avenue and Clouet Street.

Responding officers said the driver of a gray or silver SUV was headed south on Clouet Street when they allegedly hit the bicyclist and drove off.

After the crash, police said the driver headed west on North Claiborne Avenue, over the bridge and then in an unknown direction.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.

No further information is available but the investigation remains ongoing as blood and alcohol test results are pending.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after an autopsy is done and the family is notified.
