Flavors from across the globe served up on Mister Mao’s Restaurant Week menu

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — For some restaurants, it’s their first time participating in Restaurant Week, and that’s true for Mister Mao over on Tchoupitoulas Street in the Uptown area. A restaurant that’s described as a tropical roadhouse, serving up flavors from across the world.

“We’re really excited to see the new guests that it will bring in,” said chef and owner Sophina Uong. “We’ve heard great things from all the other chefs in town.”

For dinner, Uong is offering a three-course dinner menu for $40. For the first course, you have an option of pani puri, which is a tumeric potato masala, Ponchatoula strawberry, tamarind chutney and fiery mint water, or you can snag an avocado chaat with navel orange, sprouted lentil, pickled beet, serrano yogurt and “puffy stuff.”

The second course is a choice Kashmiri fried chick with black salt lime cream, cumin and poor man’s pink pineapple or a pork chile verde with supremo pasta, tomatillo, cilantro and parmesan.

To finish off, you’ll have the option of a royal falooda with rose chia, candied pistachio, strawberry and seasonal sorbet or strawberry crunch cake with vanilla genoise and a seasonal fruit compote.

There is also a family style brunch menu offered.

“Our food is spicy. The music is loud. We just want to have fun and we hope everyone that comes in here enjoys themselves and also wants to have fun,” said Uong.
