NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a shooting in the Filmore area that lead to a standoff between a subject and authorities.

According to the NOPD, officers responded to the scene in the 4500 block of Perlita Street just after 2 p.m. Upon arrival, they learned of a man suffering from several gunshot wounds.

The man, identified by the Orleans Parish Coroners Office as 51-years-old  Ferdinand Alexander, was taken to the hospital by EMS where he later died from his injures.

During investigations, NOPD officers learned of another individual barricaded inside of the home who they believe they are the person responsible for the shooting. After many attempts to get the subject out, the SWAT Team was deployed.

WGNO’s Amy Russo was at the scene and heard the attempts of luring the individual out of the home:

“I want you to come out of the house”

“I want to help”

Agents later discovered the home was empty and gave the all clear for the area. No further details are available at this time.
