NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Three people have been displaced following a fire in the Seventh Ward Wednesday night, March 27.

According to New Orleans Fire Department firefighters, around 9:50 p.m. they were notified of a fire in the 1500 block of North Broad Street. They arrived at 9:54 p.m. to find a wood-framed home fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters said a second alarm was called at 9:56 p.m. once they noticed the fire posed a danger to the neighboring home.

NOFD officials say residents of both homes, a couple and a woman, had escaped before firefighters arrived.

According to NOFD firefighters, “The original fire building experienced severe damage to its rear, eventually resulting in the collapse of that section of the home. Fortunately, firefighters were able to limit the damage to the exposure (only a few feet away) to moderate damage to its right and rear exterior walls.”

In total, 17 NOFD units carrying 47 personnel were able to get the flames under control by 10:20 p.m.

Both homes are unlivable as a result of the fire, according to the NOFD officials. No injuries were reported from the incident.

The Red Cross was also on the scene assisting the residents with immediate housing needs.
