NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened Tuesday morning, Feb. 27.

According to officers, the crash happened around 2:17 a.m. on Interstate 10 Eastbound at North Claiborne Avenue.

The NOPD reported a vehicle crashed into a guardrail and ended up stopped in the middle lane. Three other vehicles crashed into the first vehicle, which led to the male driver’s death.

Due to the crash and investigation, all lanes of the interstate were shut down with traffic being diverted to the Orleans Avenue and Vieux Carre exit.

Around 5:33 a.m., traffic officials announced all lanes had reopened.

No further details are available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after an autopsy is done and the family is notified.
